Nick Stranger, Seymour Turnbull & Finnian Whitla - Vissla + Aquiva Shapers Shack - Bicheno Food & Wine Festival 2019

ABOUT us

Aquiva is a creative hub for coastal creatives. Originally Founded in 2018 by surfboard builder, DJ and music producer Finnian Whitla. The concept was simple - create a website platform for creatives in and around the coast — but that quickly escalated into a full two-day surf festival blow out Spanning multiple venues across Hobart in Tasmania’s south. We brought together shapers, artists, musicians, photographers, jewellery makers, and boardrider clubs and it became something far bigger than we anticipated.

The original website started with a collective of shapers including Matt Parker and Album Surfboards, Luke Daniels, Serpent Sleds, Max Stewart, Nick Stranger & Seymonster Shapes. Since then we've been fortunate to work alongside some amazing brands and people, including Vissla, Save the Waves, Surf Ears, Captain Fin, Core Blanks, Pirate Life Brewing, Willie Smith Tasmanian Cider, Ain't That Swell, Wild Things Gallery, Eddie & The Low Tides, The Goons of Doom, The Bungalows, Stu Gibson, Bronze Savage, Nick Green, Marti Paridisis, Mick Lawrence, JJJames Art, Matt Hannon, Dane Chisolm and all the crew at Southarm Boardriders in Tasmania.

Following the festival in 2018 we teamed up with Vissla and built a mobile shaping bay. We took the shaping bay all around Tasmania for a number of years to events including The Bicheno Food & Wine Festival, Buttons Brewing and the West Coast Boardriders club surfboard expo. This kind of shaping bay with perspex viewing windows, gives people a unique look in to surfboard shaping.

Now we are currently located in the Southern Gold Coast, making surfboards at The GlassLab. If you would like to get involved by showcasing your art, music or surfboards, please get in touch!
